Teams channel - conversion from public to private

Hi,

I would like to convert a channel teams "public" to a "private" channel, after its creation.

It is possible ?

I try to search an answer, and the only feature I've found is the obligation to create the channel in the private option from the beginning.

If the channel is already created in "public" what is the way to move back to private ?

Screen shot below = impossible to clic on the "type" to change it from public to private :-(

In addition to the problem presented with not being able to switch from public to private or vice-versa; there is another problem I discovered while testing, that will affect users that ususally schedule Team Channel Meetings. In that, you are not able to schedule a meeting for a private channel, the only option available is to click meet now in real time. Therefore, the only way to use the option to schedule a future date meeting only with the users permitted to view that specific teams channel, is if the channel is set to public. And therefore if the channel is set to public, even users not invited to the meeting that are a part of the Team that the channel is under, can join the meeting at anytime or see the information in that meeting; even though they were not invited. *So it defeats the purpose of creating a private channel and being able to plan ahead and set a future date teams meeting that you can later track and automatically make available to that specific private channel. So basically you will lose a very useful feature if you go private, though you gain the security aspect, but based on current limitations, you cannot have both.

I tried to find a solution for that, but i got here with no solution. It would be nice to have a solution for it.

@JimmyYang-MSFT What reason is there behind not being able to toggle from public to private and vice versa? Is this a feature being discussed in the background to turn on or develop?

Our organization could reallllly use this ability. We are pouring more and more into Teams everyday and everyday we're finding little things that eventually going to be big problems (finding limitations etc).

No, it cannot be completed. Private channels can't be converted to standard channels and vice versa. You could find the evidence in this official document.

Just to add another voice to this problematic lack of capability in Teams. We started with shared channels, but the project expanded and now we have no way to prevent access to the new guests to older channels and the files in there.

Is this even on Microsoft's radar to fix, or is this one more of these odd quirks of Teams that will never be resolved?

Highly suggest that this be considered for the future roadmap of improvements in Teams, as it's frustrating and time consuming to have to re-create an entire channel just to make it private.

Agree with previous comments about this being needed. Private/public - it's basic security and always needs to be flexible
