Hi,

I'm a web designer and Developer Recently I added AVIF format to one of the client's websites because it compresses the whole image and gives decent speed for the website. It's working all on other browsers. Except for Microsoft edge. Even though statistically only 2 % of people are using Edge. so I'm just wondering whether. Do you guys have any solution for this?

Any update on this? I am going to stop recommending Edge, because, despite being based on Chromium, it does not have support for several things that have been adopted by all other browsers. Even Apple, which was slow to add VP8/VP9 support to their platforms, has jumped on the AV1/AVIF bandwagon. AV1 hardware decode has been around for several years in the consumer market and Intel's new discreet graphics have high quality AV1 hardware encoding, so it will be gaining popularity quickly. Is this planned? Is there a timeline?

Any updates on this? MS Edge is still the only browser not to support the open AVIF image format.
Microsoft is member of Alliance for Open Media:
    https://aomedia.org/membership/members/

And is supporting the open video format AV1 from which AVIF is derived. See eg. https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/av1-video-extension/9MVZQVXJBQ9V

    So support should be forthcomming?

Here to bump. It baffles me that if Chromium both Chrome and Edge is based on supports AVIF, why isn't it out-of-box on Edge? It should also stay platform agnostic, and not be tied to Microsoft Store, as Edge is on Mac, Linux, Android as well. iOS version is a Safari view anyways, that supports AVIF starting with iOS 16. Edge is essentially only "major" browser with zero support.

    Hi @Sridhar R ,

Unfortunately, currently Microsoft Edge does not support avif format files due to design, you can only download it instead of viewing it directly.

In this case, you can only use image formats supported by Edge, otherwise you may need to use other browsers that support avif files. In addition, I recommand that you can send your suggestion to relvant team, just press Shift + Alt + i in Edge to edit this issue and send it.

    Regards,

Any updates on this? With support for avif images in iOS 16, Edge is now the only modern browser that doesn't support avif.
