office.2021 cannot connect to office365

used to use office.2019.pro, never had issues using outlook with office365.
recently purchased and installed ofice.2021.pro, never could connect.

here is the copy/paste from that other topic


To eliminate my computer from the equation, i create a hyperv vm running windows 11.

installed msoffice.2021.pro

all tests below were performed with that hyperv vm.

to make testing easier, with office365 admin center.

  1. disabled modern authentication
  2. disabled MFA

note: made sure to delete the credentials before each test, for control panel applet

  1. able to login to webmail.
  2. using the windows built-in email app, everything works as expected.
    a. able to create an account with office365.
    b. able to create an account using imap.
  3. using msoffice.2021.pro, NOT able to create accounts. keeps asking for email and password over and over again.
    a. NOT able to create an account with office365.
    b. NOT able to create an account using imap.
  4. using control panel email applet. NOT able to create accounts. keeps asking for email and password over and over again.
    a. NOT able to create an account with office365.
    b. NOT able to create an account using imap.

    Do you mean that you can't configure your account as IMAP or Exchange in Outlook 2021?

    If so, what's the version of your Outlook 2021? (File > Office Account > About Outlook). Please make sure you have upgraded your Outlook to the latest version.
    Have you tried to add another account for test?
    And does this issue occur with other users in your organization?

    According to your description, "keeps asking for email and password over and over again", as I know, we can run diagnostics to determine the issue that might cause the error. For more information, please refer to: Run a self-diagnostics tool.

    In addition, based on my experience, Outlook password prompt issue will be affected by many factors, such as incorrect cached credentials, corrupted account settings and so on. Please refer to this article and try the suggestions about the issue to check if there're any differences: Why does Outlook keep prompting for password.
