Hi everyone,

We have this laptop that is domain joined and the computer name is - for an instance 'Office-Laptop001'. Running on Windows 10 21H2.

The corresponding Computer account that was created in the Active Directory (on-premise) was moved in to the relevant OU according to the City the office is located at. (which says 'Office-Laptop001' as the computer name)

Now, we want to rename this laptop as 'Office-LaptopBAK'

Just want your advise on this - will renaming the laptop name by going into the > System - Change Settings - Change - Computer Name
and just renaming the device, make the relevant computer account in Active Directory to change it's name ?

Or is there another way ?

(hope I don't have to remove the laptop from the domain - remove the computer account from the Active Directory and rejoin the domain with the new computer name ? )

Thank you all on advance

    Hi @PM006

Thank you for asking this question on the **Microsoft Q&A Platform. **

    This is the way!!!

When you change the name of the Join Domain Computer, it will change the Name in the Domain Controller.

We did in my organization for more than three hundred computers and we didn't have any issue.

    Hope this helps,
    Carlos Solís Salazar
