Hello,
I'm trying to publish an url via an Application Gateway, but this url need to be rewritten when it is requested.
For exemple if the url written is https://contoso.com, the Application Gateway need to rewrite the url to https://contoso.com/site1.
I need to repoduice the same behavior than the Microsoft website.
Can someone help me ?

When you say "you need the Application gateway url to be rewritten when it is requested", could you please validate if this rewritten URL should be sent to the backend or should only be visible in the browser?
As mentioned in this doc,
In the case of a URL rewrite, Application Gateway rewrites the URL before the request is sent to the backend. This will not change what users see in the browser because the changes are hidden from the user.
In the case of a URL redirect, Application Gateway sends a redirect response to the client with the new URL. That, in turn, requires the client to resend its request to the new URL provided in the redirect. The URL that the user sees in the browser will update to the new URL.
So, if you want the URL https://contoso.com to be rewritten and sent to the backend as https://contoso.com/site1, then URL rewrite can be used.

But if you want the URL https://contoso.com to be rewritten as https://contoso.com/site1 on the browser which is visible to user, then you need to go with URL redirect.

Thanks you for your answer.
However, the URL redirect is base on a listener which listen on a hostname contoso.com or *.contoso.com. Following your instruction, the rule should redirect to contoso.com/site1. But a listener cannot listen on a hostname + path.
So I don't see how to perform this design with an Application Gateway. I'm I wrong ?

I discussed the Microsoft example shared by you with Application gateway product group team and below is the update on same:
In the Microsoft website example, the response back to the client contains the “location” header, with the URL + /fr-fr/. This could be done with rewrite rules, by looking for the “accept-language” header and adding a rule to include “location” as a response header with the value of the URL + part of the accept-language value.
Could you please confirm if your requirement is exactly the same as the Microsoft website example where it adds the language suffix or is it something different?

I tryed to perform the configuration you explained, but it isn't working.
I configured an url with a Rewrites rule which modifies the Location in the the response header. The header is well rewritten, but no redirection applies and the URL stay the same (see capture).
The status code is 200, when on your side is status code is 302 (redirect)

This is work if you want to redirect contoso.com to microsoft.com.
It isn't possible to and a path "/test" at the end of the URL because the listener doesn't accept url with directory "/test".

If you want to redirect https://contoso.com to https://contoso.com/site1, make sure the target URL is https://contoso.com/site1
If you want to redirect https://contoso.com/site1 to https://contoso.com/site2, add a Path-Based rule, then use same setting with target type of Redirection.
