Hi team - not sure if this issue has been flagged or posted before -
HP Pavilion-14-ce3501na laptop screen flickering or disappearing since I entered the early adopters Window 11 programme. Incompatible screen driver? but when I try to update the driver I'm told (by both MS and HP) that I'm using the latest current driver? Help

Windows 10 clean install is preferred.

If it passes testing with Windows 10 then upgrade to Windows 11 for the second test.

    Hi @Paul H Davies

I was just wondering if you're still experiencing this issue?

I have been experiencing it for the past few weeks on Windows 11 version 22H2 which is now in general availability. Re-installing the graphics driver is a temporary fix for this, but just wondered if you found a permanent fix.

I mostly use my laptop with an external display and it works absolutely fine that way - but frustrating that I can't use the laptop as a standalone device without having this screen flickering issue.

I have a similar laptop model: HP Pavillion 14-ce3520na

    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James

You have described the symptoms so much better than me! I too, have an extended display to an external (Dell) screen which I use as my primary display. Working on that is fine but if I try to work on the laptop screen or use the laptop as a standalone laptop, it is virtually impossible!

You would have thought that someone would have found a solution to this problem by now. MS says it's HPs fault and vice versa - neither of their comments moves the issue forward!

    Kindest regards

    Paul Davies

    Hi,
Since last week I'm experiencing exact the same problem; I uninstalled recent updates and then it seemed to work. But after switching of and on after a while, the same problem occured.
All hw tests succeed and also like you; external screens work fine.
Even I chromecasted the Chrome browser screen to the Television with no problem on the Television but a laptop screen that turns black while moving the mouse.
Pressing F4 sometimes returns the screen for a minute.
Any updates? Should I reinstall Win10?

Gents - I have some news!
I sent my laptop off to my local Computer Repair shop and described the problem to them. This is quite a common problem apparently and it's caused by the Windows 11 driver being slightly incompatible with the laptop. The laptop was designed for Windows 10 (I bought mine in Jan 2020 with W10 preinstalled). I upgraded Windows to W11 during late 2020 early 2021. (Can't recall exactly when.)
    .
The correct driver that must be used to stop this happening is:
    Device Manager:

    >> Display adaptors
    >>>>>Intel (R) UHD Graphics
    >>>>>>>>Properties / Driver

    Diver Provider: Intel Corporation
    Driver Date: 25-Jul-2019
    Driver Version: 25.20.100.7012
    .
The downside is that every time W11 updates itself, it then overwrites the Driver so we're back with the old problem - however, when it does update itself you can use "Roll Back Driver" from the Properties / Driver tab of the Display Adaptor.
    .
I have tried to update another similar laptop, but I don't have the in-depth knowledge nor expertise to totally replace the existing Display Adaptor driver - so I'm leaving the update to the experts! I'm hoping that they can come up with a script to reverse the Driver Updates automatically when W11 works it's "magic" and updates itself!
    .
    Hope this helps
