PowerBI lineage from SQL Server in Purview

Hello,

I am trying to get lineage of PowerBI report which has SQL server as source. But lineage is not showing towards SQL server and it is stopping at PowerBI dataset. In similar way, when I trying to get lineage with Azure SQL server as source, it is showing lineage towards Azure SQL Server. So my question is Can Purview show lineage for PowerBI when on prem SQL server is its source?

Note: As I mentioned above, when source is Azure SQL server, lineage is showing correctly.

I have some questions.

Are you using powerbi cloud or desktop?
do you have access to the database from another application? what database version is it?

I am using PowerBI cloud.
I didn't understand this-do you have access to the database from another application?
But I do have access to actual source tables in on-prem sql server.

SQL DB version: Microsoft SQL Server 2019 - 15.0.4198.2

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

Microsoft Purview currently doesn't support query or stored procedure for lineage or scanning. Lineage is limited to table and view sources only. Besides the lineage on assets within the data source, lineage is also supported if dataset is used as a source/sink in Data Factory or Synapse pipeline.

But when I see documentation in below link, it says the Lineage is supported with on-prem SQL server.

Are you saying that on-prem SQL server lineage won't be visible with PowerBI only?

@PRADEEPCHEEKATLA I am using On-prem SQL server table as a dataset in PowerBI report. This SQL table is used as a source in datafactory copy activity.
In above scenario, are you saying that Purview should lineage for PowerBI report all the way back to On-prem SQL server. Please clarify.

If you are using SQL table is used as a source in data factory copy activity it should show the lineage as excepted.

When scanning on-premises SQL server, Microsoft Purview supports:

Extracting technical metadata including:

Instance

Databases

Schemas

Tables including the columns

Views including the columns
