Windows Server 2022 Blue Screen INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Question

Hello, I have been using the Windows server 2022 which is installed in my notebook for testing purpose. One day when I tried to boot up the sever but the Windows server could not be started up. BIOS could detct the harddisk in boot manager but I suspect that the MBR may be corrupted or missing. The notebook rebooted in the pre-boot stage endlessly.

I successfully fix the problam in WinPE using bcdboot.exe. But when I restarted the server, it showed a blue screen with the error code of INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. I install this harddisk into another PC, the Windows server can be started up normally. Anyone know how to fix that.

And I also do sfc /scannow and chkdsk.

Please don't recommend me to reinstall the Windows server because I have created a domain and users haved joined the domain. If I reinstall, the user SID will be different so the appdata folder will not be compatable.

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE mean your disk controller cannot find a boot device either because of hardware problems or more likely because of boot device driver problems (unsupported hardware) A better option may be to install it as a virtual machine.

So the disk connects to a disk controller within the laptop. There's three possibilities for INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

• disk controller failure
• disk failure
• problematic boot device driver

Most likely is the third one because there's no supported Server 2022 controller driver for the laptop hardware. You may have better luck installing Server 2022 as a virtual machine for your testing.

If in safemode it work, it's most probably a bad controller driver. I would suggest to boot in safemode and go in device manager, delete the controller and reinstall it if you can.
