Hi @Isaac Ogdan • Thank you for reaching out. Please find my response inline.
What is it?
Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle Management was formerly named Microsoft Information Governance. It helps organizations manage their risk through discovering, classifying, labeling, and governing their data. Governing your data is about keeping what you need and deleting what you don’t, to meet compliance requirements and reduce your overall risk landscape. As the name implies, it manages your content lifecycle using solutions to classify business-critical data so you can keep what you need and delete what you do not.
Data Lifecycle Management features are enabled by default at the tenant level for all users within the tenant.
M365 E3 provides the rights for a user to benefit from:
- A basic organization-wide or location-wide mailbox retention policy.
- A basic SharePoint or OneDrive retention policy and/or manually apply a non-record retention label to files in SharePoint or OneDrive.
- A Teams retention policy.
M365 E3 does NOT provide the rights for a user to benefit from Automatically applying retention labels based on trainable classifiers as this feature requires Microsoft 365 E5/A5/G5/F5.
What is happening by the end of the trial?
When you enable the trial, it will enable all the features of Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle Management. When the trial ends, users in your tenant will not be able to benefit from the features which are not included with the M365 E3 license. Features included with the M365 E3 license would still be available.
How much does it cost?
It won't cost anything from your subscription as these features are included with the licenses. To use these features you may require deploying Azure Resources but there is no cost for Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle Management itself.
