Outlook changes the email recipient address after I hit send

Outlook is repeatedly changing the email addresses for a particular recipient when I hit send. The email address it uses is an old email address of the person I intend to email, but it is an email that is no longer active so I get a delivery failed notification. Their old email address is not saved anywhere in our address book nor have I ever emailed this address intentionally from this mailbox.

Steps I've taken to try and resolve the issue:

  • Ensured the incorrect email address is not saved anywhere I can see
  • Ensured that the contacts' correct email address is the only address listed for the contact
  • Restarted Outlook.
  • Restarted my computer.
  • Created a new contact input the correct email address.
  • Just tried emailing the person by manually inputting their email address.

This is the only person this happens with and I can email them from other email accounts just not mine.

Please can anyone help?

    Hi @RCHS2022 ,

    Welcome to our forum!

According to my search, bad addresses are stored in your Outlook cache that may cause you problems.
So, it is recommended you clear the recipients cache follow the steps:
    Open Outlook.
On the File tab, select Options.
    Select the Mail tab.
Under Send Messages, select Empty Auto-Complete List.

If the issue continues, try to create a new profile from control panel and see if it works:
Go t Control panel > Mail > Show profiles > Add, and re-add your account

    Hey @RCHS2022 ,
To add after clearing the auto complete cache and creating a new profile I would try emailing the recipient in OWA to see if the issue is persistent there as well.

    regards,
    Wes
