How do I unlock my SMTP account

Hi,

I am having some problems sending emails via Outlook 2016 on my PC. I can access my Outlook account via the web browser and successfully send emails from there, but it looks like my attempts to send emails via SMTP are failing with the following message:

Password command failed: 535 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful, account locked. Contact your administrator. [LO2P265CA0388.GBRP265.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM

How do I get my account unlocked?

    Is this a personal e-mail outlook/live/hotmail or work/school account?

    I'm guessing that if it is your work/school account, they have Authenticated SMTP turned off on your account. Please consult with your IT Administrator to turn it back on.

    Be aware that basic authentication is being disabled October 1, 2022.

    Hi DillionJS,

    It is a personal account (live). I'm not sure if the account locking is temporary or how to get the lock removed.

    Have you recently changed your password?
    If so, please remove the credential in Credential Manager and create a new profile from control panel:
    Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add, then re-connect your account to see if it works.
