How to include javascript code using Sharepoint designer 2013 in sharepoint online classic community site Form?

hi,

I have a javascript code to edit form in community site using sharepoint designer. I have tested the code in chrome dev console to verify it is working but when i am uploading it style library and updating tag on master page using SP designer. i dont see any response. Attached is the working javascript code, is there any specific way to modify the code to run with .aspx file?

Hi @Audi86 ,
You can follow the document to insert your js code to edit form.

I would recommend you to upload js file to Site Assets library. Refer the file from Site Assets or any other library. Make sure this link it not blocked by SharePoint or your network. Then add a Content Editor or Script Editor web part for inserting the code.

I tried the link and getting following response (below) which seems like SP designer is not allowing creation of new form but that link was informative. So I am trying to edit the form using script.
For that I upload the script in a style library and calling from there. I didnt get any errors, but i also did not see any changes in the form though, but i know that that script has no errors because i tested it on front end using chrome console. can you confirm if we can actually edit exiting forms using scripts? thanks

HI @Audi86

If you want to add JavaScript only, then you can use a Content Editor web part to the page. Without using SharePoint Designer, you can add Js in your page as well.

Add a Content Editor web part to the page.
(Click on the link to add new content, if you are using a web part page.)
Click on the Edit Source button in the ribbon.
Paste your JavaScript code in the HTML source.
Apply and save the page.

Sorry I was not clear on my query here. i am trying to edit classics community site Form here. I had performed your solution on site page which works but on form level Classic community site dont allow adding script editors to add/edit script. So that's why I have opted for SharePoint designer to add the script. Thanks

You can go to SharePoint Online admin center with admin account > Settings > classic settings page > Custom Script > select Allow users to run custom script on personal sites and Allow users to run custom script on self-service created sites.(Note: This may take up to 24 hours to reflect the changes. Sometimes it may take more than that and sometimes it may take 3/4 hours also.)

yes I have that already allowed. looks like MS has blocked those edits now on Community Site form. This is how I am looking into it once I select new form. No option to add an editor

hi @RaytheonXie_MSFT command ran successfully but still no option appeared to add the the script editor or web part on form page. same old look as above unless i am talking too early and command take some time to enable options

hi @RaytheonXie_MSFT thanks I ma able to add the webpart but cant find save option. I did insert the code but no response on page. I can only see stop editing potion. As mentioned earlier, the code is already tested and working on console front end testing.

hi @RaytheonXie_MSFT yes I followed that already, Unfortunately it still not working. You may think the code has an error but the its working on front end console testing so there is something else happening here. No error after inserting code but no change as well on form as well.

this is when I insert my code in Console to test, you can see in it below when I am changing the category, its showing the relevant description as well and its doing it for all categories. I am pulling those lines from another list on same site

The problem is that the file sp.js, is not reffered and hence not getting loaded before the function call. You can use following code to call your function

SP.SOD.executeFunc('sp.js', function () { // code goes here });

@RaytheonXie_MSFT do you know where exactly I have to save that file and call that using your code? At the moment, I was pasting the script directly. Should i upload it on site library and call it from there?

Alternatively, you can add a SharePoint script editor web part and then add your JavaScript.
