Availability option for a Virtual machine DNS server

I have an existing virtual machine which is being used as a DNS server, noticed that the server lacks high availability configuration. What kind of high availability configuration can be used for a VM that is being used as a DNS server, as the server is already in use and high availability cannot be configured on an existing server, does this mean that a new VM build is required, and if so what are the HA options that can be used ? I have looked at scale sets, this would not be suitable since the VM is not hosting applications. Would I be correct in thinking that availability zones might be better suited ?

Why aren't going with the old and reliable infrastructure solution - multiple DNS servers?

Setting up an additional DNS server in a different region and putting them together in a Multi-DNS-system.

I just found a Step-by-step tutorial for Windows 2003 (it was updated in 2021), but that should still explain how to proceed on newer versions.

    Hi MrFlinstone-1451,
Have you looked at Azure Traffic Manager?
Another option is a more basic load balancing.
