Dear Sirs
In the document titled as in title is writed that changing the registry key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender Security Center\Notifications]"DisableNotifications"=dword:00000001

And the registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender Security Center\Notifications] "DisableEnhancedNotifications"=dword:00000001

You can hide respectively All the notifications and the non critical notifications.

I have a version 1909 win 10 pro.
I have tried the changements directly in registry and after gpupdate /force /wait:0 and no any notification disappear.

Only if I enable all the notifications from gpedit..msc it work.

What mistake i am doing? What is missing?
Thank you for all the help.

    Hi Giovanni,

You are welcome. Thank you so much for your kindly reply.

Yeah, there will be no Windows Defender Security Center key if the local group policy not configured. So we have to manually created. I did the test in Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1903 and it worked.

Not configure the local group policy and manually created the keys and set the value "DisableNotifications" to 1.
Then restart the machine. Please restart the machine to make the setting in effect. I tested that it would not work if not restarting the machine.

In my test, after restarting the machine, there will be no alert if switching the slide button of "Real Time protection" from Activated to Deactivated.

If possible, we could kindly have a recheck. For any question, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you so much for your time and support.

    Best regards,

    Hello Hannah

thank you very much for your meticulous research and verification, which deserves a top grade.

I have followed perfectly your guide and after ricreated Key, SubKey and Dword Value the issue persist.

    THIS IS THE BEHAVIOR:

GPEDIT ----> Enabled Register Key DisableNotifications set to 0 = The security alert appears.
GPEDIT ----> Enabled Register Key DisableNotifications set to 1 = The security alert appears.
GPEDIT ----> Disabled Register Key DisableNotifications set to 0 = The security alert not appears.
GPEDIT ----> Disabled Register Key DisableNotifications set to 1 = The security alert not appears.

Then it means that the only changement of the register key don't produces effects as indicate in Microsoft Document

    WIndows 10 Pro, Version 1909, Build 18363.1082

Thank you very much one more time.
    Best Regards

    Hello Giovanni,

You are welcome. Thank you so much for your kindly reply.

According to our description, the changement being made in the gpedit.msc could change the effects of notifications, that is we will not receive any notifications from Windows Security. But the changement being made in the registry have no effect, and we will still receive the notifications from Windows Security.

In my environment, at first there is no such registry entries: Windows Defender Security Center as shown below.

    25154-110.png

It will appear after the configuration of the policy under COMPUTER/ADMINISTRATIVE MODEL/WINDOWS COMPONENTS/WINDOWS SECURITY/NOTIFICATIONS /HIDE ALL NOTIFICATION.

    25118-112.png

Besides, I also tested to new create the entries and value as shown below before configuration of the group policy. Firstly create the New Key of Windows Defender Security Center, then create the New sub key Notifications, last create the DWORD (32-bit) Value.

    25144-221.png
    25124-222.png
    25184-223.png

Then I configured the group policy and changed Hide all notifications Enabled. Then I checked that the above created value also changed to DWORD:00000001.

If I changed the Value data to 0 as shown below, it would not change the group policy configuration. But the registry will be in effect.

Generally speaking, to directly change the registry, this modification should be in effect. We could have a recheck whether it is Windows Security from where we will not receive the notifications. Besides, we could also check whether the registry entries are correctly created if we created them manually.

Thank you so much for your time and support.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for posting here.

According to our description, we made the changes directly in registry. Have we tried to restart the computer to check whether it is applied?

Hide all notifications will override the Hide non-critical notification policy. If you set Hide all notifications to Enabled, changing the Hide non-critical notifications setting will have no effect.
