And the registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender Security Center\Notifications] "DisableEnhancedNotifications"=dword:00000001

You can hide respectively All the notifications and the non critical notifications.

I have a version 1909 win 10 pro.
I have tried the changements directly in registry and after gpupdate /force /wait:0 and no any notification disappear.

Only if I enable all the notifications from gpedit..msc it work.

What mistake i am doing? What is missing?
Thank you for all the help.

    Hi Giovanni,

You are welcome. Thank you so much for your kindly reply.

Yeah, there will be no Windows Defender Security Center key if the local group policy not configured. So we have to manually created. I did the test in Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1903 and it worked.

Not configure the local group policy and manually created the keys and set the value "DisableNotifications" to 1.
Then restart the machine. Please restart the machine to make the setting in effect. I tested that it would not work if not restarting the machine.

In my test, after restarting the machine, there will be no alert if switching the slide button of "Real Time protection" from Activated to Deactivated.

If possible, we could kindly have a recheck. For any question, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you so much for your time and support.

    Best regards,
    Hannah Xiong

    Hello Giovanni,

You are welcome. Thank you so much for your kindly reply.

The behaviors should be as following:

GPEDIT---->Enabled, DisableNotifications set to 1, The security alert not appears.
GPEDIT---->Disabled, DisableNotifications set to 0, The security alert appears.

    25389-111.png

    25435-112.png

If we changed the registry value, the behaviors should be:

GPEDIT---->Enabled, DisableNotifications set to 0, The security alert appears.
GPEDIT---->Disabled, DisableNotifications set to 1, The security alert not appears.

So sorry that I have no idea why this issue occurred. We configured the local group policy, right? Is this Win 10 machine joined domain? If it is domain joined, do we configured the domain group policy for this configuration?

    Best regards,
    Hannah Xiong

    Hi Giovanni,

Thank you so much for your kindly reply.

As mentioned, it worked if we configured the local group policy for this setting. The only problem is with the registry setting. It is suggested that we could only configure this setting via the local group policy editor. Or if we would like to configure the registry directly, we could let the group policy Not Configured.

If we do not configure the group policy, only configure the registry, the registry setting will be in effect. Please make sure that the registry setting is correctly configured.

If we configure the group policy, the changes we make in the group policy editor affect what you see in the registry. Local group policy settings are stored in registry.pol files located in C:\Windows\system32\GroupPolicy. These files overwrite the corresponding keys in the registry every time the system performs a group policy refresh. The editor never actually reads the registry to see what settings it contains.

That is to say, if we configured the group policy, and then we made change to the corresponding keys in the registry. To make the registry changement in effect, we need to restart the machine or run Gpupdate /force. Once group policy refresh, the registry will be overwrote. So the registry changement will not be in effect.

    Hi Hannah,
first of all thank you for your patience.
    I followed your istructions:

    1) Local group policy not configured.
When you set up the Local Group Policies (Local Computer-->Administrative Models-->Windows Components-->Windows Security-->Notifications-->Hide All notifications) to "Not Configured" the Windows Defender Security Center key in the registry disappear.

    2) I have manually recreated:
    a) The Key "Windows Defender Security Center"
    b) The Key "Notifications"
    c) The 32bit DWORD VALUE "DisableNotifications" and set the same to 1

Please in the attachement you can check the behavior.
After switching the slide button of "Real Time protection" from Activated to Deactivated after two seconds appears the alert.

    Nothing change.

The only setting that can permit to deactivate the alerts is to set to enable the "Hide all Notification" in the Gpedit.
    Thank you one more time
    With regards and thanksgiving
    Giovanni Guarino
