How to group dates in Excel Pivot Table by Weeks

When I attempt to group my dates by days to show weeks the fields are grayed out.

What happens when you filter the date column? Does it look like:

Or does it have everything nicely sorted in years? I'm thinking that either the column you are calling is not formatted to be a date type or some formats are not correct.

There are now "N/A" shows when using the filters. All dates are valid.

I have the same problem .... I've done all the steps recommended (MANY TIMES OVER) ... checked date format, refreshed etc .... but the no of days and the starting at & ending at fields are still gray .... does anyone else have a possible solution????

Checking the format of the cell is useless, if the content is a text and if you change the date format of the cell doesn't change the content, it is still a text. And you see the symptom described in this really old thread.

Change the format of the cells to General, if you actually have a date in the cell you should now see numbers everywhere.

Thanks for your suggestion ..... dates DO turn to numbers if changed to 'general' ... so they are all dates (I checked every single cell) .... but still no luck ...
