Best options for Application R&D against an AAD instance

There is a company AAD instance which is owned and managed by our IT group. We have a couple of subscriptions in their Tenancy which we use for Software R&D. We are at the stage where we are building applications which need to be registered against AAD and we want to explore all the options application registration offer us but we do not have permissions to do the registration against the corporate AAD instance so things get really bogged down between ourselves (fast turn around trying lots of new things) and the IT Group (stability in services and slow to respond to our requests).

What we really need is some way to have our own AAD instance which we can develop against but whether we can do this in the existing subscription along side the production AAD instance or whether we'd need a new tenancy is unclear.

What are peoples thoughts on the best way to achieve the freedom to develop against AAD without having to pester the IT Group with every change we might make?

Cheers
