Hi @arkiboys ,
In addition to Samy's answer:
Here is an example of resources in West US:
If your dedicated SQL pool is configured with 100 DWU and used for an hour with 2 TB data processed then the cost
$1.51(for DWUs)+ $55.50 (for data processed) = $ 57.01
For Serverless:
2Tb(data processed) = $6.76
Serverless Sql pool:
Dedicated SQL pool:
You can purchase reserved capacity for your Dedicated SQL pool (formerly SQL DW) resource, which is generally available today.
and you can save up to 65 percent compared to pay-as-you-go rates with reserved capacity pricing for your data warehousing workloads running on Azure.
I hope this helps.
Hi @arkiboys ,
This is from the pricing calculator
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/
In this URL, on the Products section, look for Azure Synapse analytics. You can estimate the cost based on the region from this page.
hi,
can you help me to get a price comparison between dedicated and serverless sql pool?
I recently set-up synapse and set up dedicated but we seem to be using a-lot in serverless...
I am not sure how to compare the pricing of dedicated vs serverless like to like.
for example, using the pricing link you kindly sent me, I set the region to north europe and gen2 and dedicated sql pool DWU blocks to 100 and monthly
storage to 10
serverless sql pool to 10 which shows $45
storage shows $230 for 10TB per month
dedictaed shows $1.39 per hour even-though I changed it to monthly.
As you can see I can not really compare a monthly figure for dedicated vs serverless.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Hi @arkiboys ,
For the dedicated SQL pool, When you select 100 DWUs in North Europe, the cost will be $1.390 per hour.
1 month = 30.41 days(365/12)
1 month = 30.41*24 = 730 hours
Price for 100 DWUs per month = 730*1.390 = $1,014.70 (If your dedicated pool is running 24*7 for 30 days)
Storage = $23 per TB
Total Storage = 10* 23 = $230
In total for dedicated SQL pool =$1014.7+ $230 = $1244.7 (per month)
For Serverless= 10 TB price = $45 in North Eurpoe region.
Please note: Data warehouse unit costs are zero for the duration of the pause.
Hope this helps.
