Ron Jacobs on 'Introduction To Software Architecture' at Developer and IT-Pro Days 2007

Over the last editions of Developer & IT-Pro Days we received feedback from some attendees that - even though they were (lead) developers - they wanted to see some more "architect" content on the agenda of the event. Until this year the agenda was clearly split between IT-Pro's and Developers. This year we took the decision to add an "architect" track to the event:

"Introduction To Software Architecture"

Are you an Architect? Would you like to be one? What does it mean to be a Software Architect and how does this job role differ from that of a developer? Many software developers are asking questions like these and in this session we will be providing an introduction to software architecture with a discussion of the role of the architect and the essential skills that are required to successfully design a system that can be built.

  • Part 1: Essentials of the Architect and Architecture
Describes the role of the architect using three distinct analogies (Explorer, Advocate and Designer) along with the work product of the architect and essential questions that must be answered by the architecture.
  • Part 2: Essentials of Architectural Analysis – Requirements, Constraints, Patterns, Functional and Operational aspects
Discusses how architects apply these analytical tools to define the problem to be solved, describe the rules of the game and the strategy to win.
  • Part 3: Essential Abilities of the Architecture – Availability, Scalability, Security
Provides insight into how architects plan, design and test solutions for appropriate levels of ability
  • Part 4: Essentials for Architecture Review – Viability and Documentation
Provides guidance about the architectural review process and assessment of the viability of a design.

This 4 session track takes place on the first day of the main conference, March 28th.

Speaker will be Ron Jacobs, Architect Evangelist in Microsoft's Architecture Strategy Team team based in Redmond, Washington.  After a long career as a developer, program manager for various Microsoft products and product manager for patterns & practices Ron became host of the Channel9 show ARCast. A popular conference speaker Ron brings together solid architectural content and a sense of humor together to help you succeed in building architecturally sound and secure applications.

So if you're looking for some excellent architect content delivered by a top speaker, don't hesitate and register for Dev & IT-Pro Days 2007!
