Key metrics
The following sections describe each metric in the Citation dashboard.
Page citations
Page citations show the total number of times pages from your site were referenced in AI-generated answers during the selected period. Use this metric to identify which content is consistently cited and which themes or formats perform well.
Share of authority
Share of authority represents the percentage of total citations attributed to your domain, calculated as your citations divided by total citations from all domains.
The calculation is applied at a daily level. If your domain is cited for a query on a given day, all citation instances for that query on that day are included; if not, that day is excluded. As a result, this approach focuses on active participation and may lead to higher Share of authority values compared to broader calculations.
A higher share indicates a stronger presence in AI-generated answers, while a lower share highlights opportunities to improve competitiveness for key topics.
AI referral traffic
AI referral traffic shows the percentage of sessions on your site that arrived from AI assistants, calculated as AI-referred sessions divided by the total number of sessions for the selected time period.
Grounding queries
The Grounding queries table displays the queries that AI systems used to retrieve your content before generating an answer. These queries may differ from the exact phrases users type, but they provide insight into how AI systems discover and map your content. Understanding these queries helps you align your content with the way AI systems structure and retrieve information.
My cited pages
The My cited pages table lists the pages from your domain that were referenced in AI-generated answers, along with their citation counts and associated queries. Use this view to identify high-performing pages to expand and pages that may require improvements in structure, clarity, or coverage to increase their likelihood of being cited.
Note
Citation counts reflect how often a page was referenced, not its ranking or prominence within an AI-generated answer.
