Configure Dynamics 365 telecommunications accelerator

Once you've installed the Microsoft Dynamics 365 telecommunications accelerator from GitHub, follow the steps in this article to enable and activate Azure Maps, the embedded canvas apps, and Power BI reports.

Set up Azure Maps subscription key

The following steps will ensure that Azure Maps is properly configured into the telecommunications solution.

  1. Use Azure portal to manage your Azure Maps account and acquire a subscription key. Go to Manage your Azure Maps account.

  2. After the Azure Maps account is created, you will need to set the pricing tier to Standard S1. If this step is skipped, polygon visuals won't work in the telco apps. Go to Manage the pricing tier of your Azure Maps account.

  3. Update environment variable mstelco_AzureMapsSubscriptionKey with the subscription key.

    1. Sign in to Power Apps.

    2. From the upper-right corner, select the environment where you have installed the telecommunications accelerator.

    3. In the left navigation pane, select Solutions.

      A warning message appears.

    4. Select See environment variable.

    5. Enter the Azure Maps Subscription Key (S1+)", and then select Save and close.

Share embedded canvas apps

The telecommunications accelerator model-driven apps use several embedded canvas apps to enhance the user experience. To ensure that your users have access to these canvas apps, use the instructions at Share an embedded canvas app to share the following canvas apps with your users:

  • Find Geo Address

  • Lead Serviceability Check

Update environment variables required for Plant Maintenance

  1. Go to the Power Apps Maker Portal.
  2. Ensure you're in the environment where you installed the Telecommunications accelerator solutions.
  3. Go to Solutions.
  4. Select and open the notification to enter value for environment variable. Update recurrence flow environment variable.
  5. Enter the value for the following environment variables, and then select Save:
    • mstelco_ScheduleMaintenanceActivities_MaxDaysInAdvance
    • mstelco_ScheduleMaintenanceActivities_MaxOccurrenceInAdvance

Change scheduling for Auto Create Maintenance Activity Flow

Important

Check the Telco Plant Maintenance Apps solution to verify that all flows required for maintenance activity creation are turned on:

FL -> Auto Create Maintenance Activities for Network Resources
FL -> Create Maintenance Activities for Network Resource based on Maintenance Plans
FL -> Update Last Maintenance Activity Date on Network Resource
FL -> Update Next Scheduled Maintenance Activity Date on Network Resource.

  1. Go to the Power Apps Maker Portal.
  2. Ensure you're in the environment where you installed the Telecommunications accelerator solutions.
  3. Go to Solutions.
  4. Select and open Plant Maintenance Apps Solution.
  5. Select FL -> Auto Create Maintenance Activities for Network Resources cloud flow.
  6. Select Edit in the command bar. Autocreate Maintenance Activity Flow edit button.
  7. Select the Recurrence step, and then select Edit. Autocreate Maintenance Activity Flow recurrence step.
  8. Update the recurrence configuration as required. Autocreate Maintenance Activity Flow recurrence step configuration.
  9. Select Save. Autocreate Maintenance Activity Flow save.

Embed Power BI reports for analytics

Two sample Power BI reports are provided as dashboards in the telecommunications accelerator. To activate them, go to GitHub to download, install, and, configure Power BI dashboards for the accelerator. You might want to adjust the Power BI reports data refresh times to occur more often, or to share ownership rights to enable manual refreshes. More information: Data refresh in Power BI
