Metadata from approvals

Completed

Actions in the Approvals connector for Power Automate provide useful metadata that you can use in subsequent flow steps.

Who is approved or rejected

After you approve or reject an item, the metadata from this process is available for other workflow processes. The following screenshot shows some of the dynamic content that captures the information.

The Outcome option provides you with the approval option that was selected, which is likely Approve, Reject, or any custom responses you added.

Date and time stamps of the approvals

Approval automatically captures several date and time stamps.

  • Completion Date

  • Request Date

  • Responses Request date

  • Responses Response date

Add comments

When responding to an approval, you can add comments. You can capture these comments and save them in the data source of your choice.

The comments can be captured by using Dynamic Content in Power Automate. The comments are recorded as a table of data (one record per approver), along with Responses Approver data. Bear that in mind if you're trying to record that information into another table of data. For example, if you want to record the Responses Comments to a single text column in your data source, you might need to concatenate the comments before submitting them to your data.
