Connect to Fabric IQ from an agent (preview)

[This article is prerelease documentation and is subject to change.]

Fabric IQ connects your agent to business data and analytics in Microsoft Fabric so the agent can generate insights and support data-driven decisions grounded in your organization's semantic model.

Add Fabric IQ to your agent in the Tools section of the Build page.

Note

Features in this article are powered by the GitHub Copilot harness, which uses Copilot Credits for usage-based billing. Learn more about Copilot Credits in Overview of billing for agents powered by the GitHub Copilot harness.

Usage-based billing applies to using, building, testing, and evaluating agents. These actions might consume Copilot Credits.

Prerequisites

  • An agent created in the new experience. See Create an agent.
  • Access to the Microsoft Fabric workspace and semantic model you want the agent to query. The picker only shows items you have access to.
  • Any authentication credentials required by your Fabric configuration.

For details on preparing your Fabric environment, see the Microsoft Fabric documentation.

Add Fabric IQ to your agent

  1. Open your agent in Copilot Studio.

  2. Select the Build tab.

  3. In the components panel, select + Add tool to open the Add tool dialog.

  4. Select Fabric IQ, and then follow the standard flow to add a tool to an agent. To learn more about the shared steps that apply to all tools, including how to review the tool description that the orchestrator uses, see Add a tool to an agent.

  5. Select Save.

After you save, the Tools section of the Build page shows the Fabric IQ connection as a connected tool.

Remove a Fabric IQ connection

  1. On the Build tab, select + Add tool.

  2. Select the connected Fabric IQ tool and select the x to remove the connection.

Removing a connection in Copilot Studio doesn't delete or change anything in Microsoft Fabric.
