Create an agent (preview)

[This article is prerelease documentation and is subject to change.]

You can create an agent in the new experience directly from the Copilot Studio Home page or from its Agents page.

Note

This article reflects the new agent experience in Microsoft Copilot Studio, which is currently available as a production-ready preview. Learn about the two experiences in Classic vs. new agent experience.

  • Production-ready previews are subject to supplemental terms of use.
  • Some capabilities available in the classic experience aren't yet available in the new experience.
  • Agents created in the new experience can't be converted to the classic experience.

Prerequisites

Create an agent with the new experience

  1. Sign in to Copilot Studio.

  2. On the Home page, select the Agent tile.

Alternatively, select Agents in the side pane to go to the Agents page, and then select New Agent.

Your agent opens in the agent designer with the Build tab active and the name field in focus.

  3. Enter a name for your agent in the name field.

  4. Optionally, change the primary language, solution, and schema name for your agent.

    Note

The last agent name you enter before the first save determines the schema name for your agent. Then, this unique system name used to reference the agent becomes read-only.

  5. In the Instructions section, describe how the agent should behave, including its role, tone, and any rules or guidelines it must follow.

  6. Select the Save icon.

If you skipped entering a name for your agent, a message appears prompting you for the name:

    1. Enter the name you want.
    2. Select Save.

Your agent is now saved in the new agent experience. The Share button, the Preview tab, and the Evaluate tab become available.

Change the primary language, solution, and schema name

  1. Select the three dots () on the toolbar, and then select Settings. The Agent settings panel appears with its Agent details tab in focus.

  2. Select the primary language you want for your agent.

  3. Select the solution you want, if applicable.

  4. Optionally, replace the default schema name with a more distinctive name. You can't change the first part of the schema name here: the selected solution determines this prefix.
