Cloud product performance insights FAQ

Appropriate roles: Report viewer | Executive report viewer

This article covers known issues for viewing or rendering reports associated with Insights.

I don't see the Insights hub in my Partner Center account. What should I do?

Make sure you've logged in into the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program account for your organization. You can't access the Insights dashboard from your Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) account. Also ensure that you've been provided Report viewer or Executive report viewer role access. For more information about roles, see Membership role-based access.

I am unable to see Billed Revenue or Azure Consumed Revenue (ACR) data in my reports. Why is that?

Billed Revenue and ACR data is available only to users who are Executive report viewers. For more information about roles, see Membership role-based access.

Why don’t PAU and MAU match in my report?

This is expected due to how each metric is calculated: MAU (Monthly active users): Counts one access per service per user per month. If a user accesses multiple services (e.g., Word and Outlook), each is counted separately. PAU (Paid available users): Reflects the number of users assigned a paid license, regardless of how many services they access. As a result, MAU can be higher than PAU, especially when users access multiple services or use trial licenses.

Understanding Partner Personas in the CSP Ecosystem

In the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program, partners operate under different models based on how they transact with Microsoft and serve customers. These models define their persona and influence how they appear in Partner Center Insights reports.

1. CSP Tier 1 – Direct Bill Partners or Distributors (Indirect Providers)

  • Direct Bill Partners:

    • Purchase Microsoft products and services directly from Microsoft.
    • Manage customer relationships end-to-end, including billing and support.
    • Appear in reports as CSP Tier 1 and are often referred to as Direct Bill.
  • Distributors (Indirect Providers):

    • Also transact directly with Microsoft.
    • Enable a network of Indirect Resellers by providing them with products, billing infrastructure, and support.
    • Appear in reports as CSP Tier 1 and are also labeled as Distributors.

In both cases, CSP Tier 1 partners are upstream entities in the CSP hierarchy.

2. CSP Tier 2 – Indirect Resellers

  • Indirect Resellers:
    • Work with a Distributor (CSP Tier 1) to procure Microsoft products.
    • Focus on customer acquisition, relationship management, and support.
    • Do not transact directly with Microsoft.
    • Appear in reports as CSP Tier 2 and are also labeled as Resellers.

CSP Tier 2 partners are downstream entities that rely on Distributors for provisioning and billing.

Partner Association and Role Mapping

Partner Persona Association Type in Reports Role
Direct Bill Partner CSP Tier 1 Transacts directly with Microsoft
Distributor (Indirect Provider) CSP Tier 1 / Distributor Enables resellers, transacts with Microsoft
Indirect Reseller CSP Tier 2 / Reseller Transacts via Distributor

Is multitenancy supported in the Insights Workspace?

Yes. Insights Workspace supports multitenancy. Data is aggregated at the Partner Global Account (PGA) level, which includes all Partner Location Accounts (PLAs) and their respective tenants. Use PGA-level filters to analyze performance across locations.

Why do some reports show negative values for Revenue, Assigned users, or Usage?

Negative values are not necessarily errors. They reflect valid business scenarios: Revenue: May be negative due to refunds, cancellations, or credit adjustments (e.g., mid-cycle subscription downgrades). Assigned users: Can be negative when licenses are revoked, reduced, or reassigned. Usage: Usage should not be negative. If it appears so, it may be due to telemetry corrections or data anomalies and should be reviewed.

Why can’t I assign the Executive Report Viewer role?

The Executive Report Viewer role is only available to: Indirect Providers / Distributors and Direct Bill Partners Indirect Resellers are not eligible for this role.

Why don’t I see Revenue or ACR columns in my reports?

These columns are only visible to users with the Executive Report Viewer role. If you're an Indirect Reseller or lack this role, these columns will not appear.

Where can I find certified individuals in my organization?

Use the Trainings Lifetime Report available in the Downloads Hub. It lists all individuals with active certifications.

Why don’t I see a certification in the Trainings report?

Active certifications may take up to 10 days to appear. Retired or expired certifications are excluded by design.

Why do I see “unknown” values or subscriptions labeled as “000”?

This typically occurs when: The SKU does not support subscriptions or when Revenue attribution is partner-declared. These are expected behaviors and not errors.

Why are CustomerName and CustomerTenantName different?

CustomerTenantName: The actual name of the customer’s tenant. CustomerName: Derived using internal heuristics and may not always match the tenant name exactly. This difference is by design and may vary based on data mapping logic.

The country/region reported for my customer seems to be incorrect. Why is that?

The customer country/region is derived from the country/region of the Global parent organization of that customer. This country/region might be different from the country/region of the customer with whom you might have transacted. Hence, the customer-reported country/region might be different from what you expect it to be.

I see a few customer names are obfuscated in the reports. Is that expected?

Customer names are obfuscated for certain subscriptions because of compliance reasons. However, the customer Top Parent ID (TPID) is available, and you can use that to look up customer names.

What is the typical latency of the reports?

Subscriptions and Customers data is refreshed daily and data is reported with a latency of five days. Azure usage data is reported with a latency of four days. Office 365, Teams, Dynamics 365, Enterprise Mobility and Security (EMS), and Power BI usage data is reported with a latency of one month. For more information, see Insights data frequency.

I've added a new customer but it's not showing in my reports, why is that?

New customers will be added to the reports during the next data refresh cycle. The data refresh cycle is completed by the 20th of each month. For example, if you add a new customer March 25, they'll appear in the reports updated by April 20. If you add a new customer April 15, they might appear in the reports updated by April 20 but if the data refresh is complete for April, they'll appear in the reports updated by May 20.

The reports aren't rendering in Internet Explorer. Is that expected?

The reports have rendering issues with Internet Explorer. They work well with Microsoft Edge and other browsers.
