Save-AzureVMImage

Captures and saves the image of a stopped Azure virtual machine.

Note

The cmdlets referenced in this documentation are for managing legacy Azure resources that use Azure Service Manager (ASM) APIs. This legacy PowerShell module isn't recommended when creating new resources since ASM is scheduled for retirement. For more information, see Azure Service Manager retirement.

The Az PowerShell module is the recommended PowerShell module for managing Azure Resource Manager (ARM) resources with PowerShell.

Description

The Save-AzureVMImage cmdlet captures and saves the image of a stopped Azure virtual machine. For Windows virtual machines, run the Sysprep tool to prepare the image before it is captured. After the image is captured, the virtual machine is deleted.

Examples

Example 1: Save an existing virtual machine and then delete it from a deployment

PS C:\> Save-AzureVMImage -ServiceName "MyService" -Name "MyVM" -NewImageName "MyBaseImage" -NewImageLabel "MyBaseVM"

This command captures an existing virtual machine and deletes it from the deployment.
