Preparing for SATA Hard Disk Drive Testing
Before running the tests, you must configure the system and install the operating system. This section summarizes the related procedures.
For a complete list of required hardware, software, and tester knowledge, see the SATA Hard Disk Drive Testing Overview.
Many of the tests in the Windows Driver Kit require a test system to restart (often more than once) to complete a test run. To facilitate this DTM will configure the client to automatically login using DTMLLUAdminUser. This happens when you first create your submission. DTM will also turn off workstation locking and prevent the machine from automatically hibernating/sleeping. If you wish to Remote Desktop into the client after starting a submission, please use DTMLLUAdminUser.
Test system configuration
The SATA hard disk drive logo program requires the following to prepare the test system for SATA hard disk drive testing:
To configure the test system for SATA hard disk drive testing
- Install the CD-ROM drive as Drive 0 on an ATA/ATAPI controller.
- Install a serial ATA controller and attach two serial ATA hard disks. These hard disks are referred to as Drive 1 and Drive 2.
- Set the system BIOS to support the S3 state.
- Install the appropriate Microsoft Windows operating system on Drive 1.
During installation, delete any existing partitions on Drive 2 and create 3 4 GB NTFS partitions. - If necessary, install any drivers supplied by a manufacturer.
- Remove any partitions on the test device, and convert the test device to use the MBR partitioning style.
- Install DTM client
- Configure the system for testing in DTM Studio:
- Add the machine to a machine pool.
- Deploy the "WDK\ConfigureHardDiskDriveâ dimension.
