Converting Prices to an Alternate Currency

You can store product prices in multiple currencies, and display multiple currencies on your Web site. For example, you may want to display product prices in both euros and U.S. dollars.

Following is an overview of the steps you perform to price products in multiple currencies:

1. Create a Base Catalog in which products are priced in the base currency.
2. Create one virtual catalog for each additional currency you want to display on your site.
3. For each product, category, or catalog you add to the virtual catalog, specify a price rule.

You use price rules to define the conversion rate (percentage) or difference between the price of the item in the base catalog (and the base currency) and the price of the item in the alternate currency.

When you specify price rules, Commerce Server stores product prices in one currency, and then recalculates prices in other currencies dynamically, as needed. The price rule adjusts the price in the base catalog by the exchange rate. The price is computed when the virtual catalog is published.

• Variant-level pricing rules are supported in virtual catalogs.

To price products in multiple currencies

1. Create a base catalog in which products are priced in the base currency. For instructions, see Creating a Base Catalog.

2. Include one or more base catalogs in the virtual catalog. For instructions, see Including Base Catalogs in a Virtual Catalog.

3. In Catalogs, click Catalog Editor.

4. In the Catalogs screen, select the virtual catalog you want to work with, and then click on the toolbar.

5. In the Catalog Content - <virtual catalog> screen, in the Price rules section, click New.

6. In the Item box, click the ellipsis button […].

7. In the Product Picker dialog box, select the category or product you want to price, and then click OK.

   Note

   • In the Product Picker dialog box, Commerce Server truncates product names longer than 30 characters. If you have multiple products with the same first 30 characters, they will appear as duplicates.

8. In the Type box, select Add percentage.

9. In the Amount box, specify the percentage you want to add to the base price of the item. For example, if the exchange rate for the Canadian dollar in U.S. currency is 1.52 (66 cents Canadian for each U.S. dollar), then to convert from Canadian to U.S. currency, you enter an additional 52 percent.

10. To save the price rule, click Done.

11. Repeat this process to price as many categories and products as needed.
