Roles and Responsibilities
Commerce Server 2000 provides a set of features and tools to develop, deploy, and manage Web sites. Working with Commerce Server requires specific skills that span three areas of expertise within an organization. In the following table, Commerce Server features are grouped for use by the three general role categories within an organization, with the skill sets shown.
Role | Expected knowledge |
Site developers | Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language (DHTML), Extensible Markup Language (XML), Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), HTML Components (HTC), and Active Server Pages (ASP) |
System administrators | Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 |
Business managers | Business goals, strategies, and processes for creating and running a successful e-commerce Web site |
In your organization these roles may be combined in various ways or they may have different names. However, they represent the three distinct skill sets required to use Commerce Server features.
The following table lists the three distinct roles, and provides examples of the tasks performed by each one.
