Set Up Text Message Notifications for Voice Mail

Applies to: Office 365 for enterprises, Microsoft Exchange

There are two types of voice mail notifications. When a caller doesn't leave a voice mail message, you can receive a missed call notification in an e-mail message that's delivered to your Inbox. You can also set up text messaging so that voice mail and missed call notifications can be sent to your mobile phone. Before you can enable text message notifications for voice mail, you must first enable text message notifications on the Text Messaging tab by clicking Turn On Notifications.

How do I set up voice mail notifications using text messaging?

  1. In Outlook Web App, click Options > Phone > Voice Mail tab.

  2. Under Notifications, choose one of the following options:

    NoTextMessageNotifications
    • When you click this button, you won't receive a text message notification on your mobile phone when you miss a call or receive a voice message.
    OnlyTextMessagesforVoiceMail
    • When you click this button, you'll receive text message notifications on your mobile phone when you have a voice message but won't receive missed call notifications.
    NotificationsforVoiceMailandMissedCalls
    • When you click this button, you'll receive missed call and voice message notifications in a text message on your mobile phone.
  3. After you choose the option you prefer, click Save.

What else do I need to know?

  • Voice mail notifications sent in a text message will also include a voice mail preview. For more information, see Learn About Voice Mail Preview.
If voice mail notifications aren't available, you need to first turn on text message notifications on the Text Messaging tab by clicking Turn On Notifications and completing the required steps. Then you can turn on voice mail notifications.
