Replacing a Data Source
IMPORTANT: MapPoint Web Service was retired on November 18, 2011. Please see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd877180.aspx for a list of current Bing Maps APIs.
You can use the tools on the Bing Maps Customer Services site (CSS) Home page to replace both location and polygon data sources.
Note
If you modify a data source by using the Manage Locations page, download the data source and save the revised version. Otherwise, your changes will be lost when you replace the version of the data source on the MapPoint servers.
When you replace a data source of either geometry type, do not modify the contents of the EntityID field. If you modify the values, your reports may be inaccurate or difficult to understand. Business locations reports are based on the number of transactions that occur for each entity ID. For example, if you request a report for a time period during which one location was assigned a new entity ID and the old entity ID was reassigned to a new location, reporting results for the two entities are combined.
When you replace a location data source, do not modify the MatchCode , MatchedMethod , MatchedAddress , EditedLocationUTC , and EditedPropertyUTC fields. These fields are populated with information about the geocoded results and the upload process. If you change the values and then search the data source for imprecisely geocoded entities, the search results will be invalid. However, you can delete the values in the InputModified field. If you delete those values before replacing the data source, you can use the Input Modified filter on the Manage Locations page to view any entities that are changed by the upload process.
To replace an existing data source
On the Home page, scroll down to the data source that you want to replace, and then click the upload icon.
On the Replace a Data Source page, verify that the geometry type, environment, data source name, and entity type are correct. (If this is not the correct data source, click Cancel to return to the Home page.)
(Optional.) If you are replacing a location data source, select a geocoding level from the Geocoding level (matched method) list. The geocoder works through the geocoding hierarchy in the order shown in the list (Street, PostCode, City, Subdivision, CountryRegion), seeking a match for each entity either below or at the level you select. Choose a different option to either increase or decrease the geocoding level. If the Latitude and Longitude columns in the data source file are empty for any of the entities, those entities are geocoded as part of the upload process.
(Optional.) Sometimes the geocoder returns multiple results for an address in a location data source. To leave the Latitude and Longitude fields blank for entities that produce multiple matches, select the Reject ambiguous matches check box. Otherwise, the latitude and longitude coordinates for the first match are used.
Type the path and name of the data source, or click Browse to locate the file on your computer.
Click Replace.
Note
If your data source file does not include a Country/region column that contains values, the geocoder uses the MapPoint.World data source for geocoding and cannot make street-level matches.
The Home page includes a Recent jobs section. Refresh the page to see the status of your upload job. The Job Details page reports the number of records that were successfully uploaded, why records that were not successfully uploaded were skipped, schema errors, and other information.
