Exploring SQL Server 2012 Data Quality Services (RTM Update)

Description

In this lab, you will create a Data Quality Services knowledge base to cleanse US state codes and email addresses. You will then create a Data Quality Project to cleanse data in an Excel workbook. Next, you will update an Integration Services package to use the DQS Cleansing component to cleanse the data as part of an ETL process.

Overview

In this lab, you will create a Data Quality Services knowledge base to cleanse US state codes and email addresses. You will then create a Data Quality Project to cleanse data in an Excel workbook. Next, you will update an Integration Services package to use the DQS Cleansing component to cleanse the data as part of an ETL process.

Objectives

The objectives of this lab are to:

  • Create a Data Quality Knowledge Base
  • Use knowledge discovery to create a domain
  • Manage domains
  • Create a Data Quality Project
  • Use the DQS Cleansing component in an Integration Services package

System Requirements

You must have installed the following items to complete this lab:

  • Microsoft Office 2010:
    • Excel
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012:
    • Database Engine
    • Integration Services
    • Data Quality Services
    • Data Quality Client (32- or 64-bit)
    • SQL Server Management Studio
    • SQL Server Server Data Tools
  • Adventure Works for SQL Server 2012
    • AdventureWorksDW2012

Setup

The setup and configuration for this lab involves running a Setup script included with the training kit. To run all setup tasks for this lab:

Note:
This process may require administrative privileges.
  1. Open a Windows Explorer window and browse to the lab’s Source folder.
  2. Double-click the Setup.cmd file in this folder to launch the setup script and run all setup tasks for this lab.
  3. If the User Account Control dialog is shown, confirm the action to proceed.

Cleanup

There is no need to cleanup if you intend to continue the sequence of labs in this training kit.

  1. To restore the original state of the AdventureWorksDW2012 database, execute the Cleanup.cmd script located under the Setup folder in the Source folder of this lab.
  2. To remove the knowledge base and project, you must manually delete them using the Data Quality Client.
