Manually delivering SharePoint Workspace account configuration codes
Applies to: SharePoint Workspace 2010, Groove Server 2010
Topic Last Modified: 2010-02-11
This article describes how to manually deliver user account configuration codes to SharePoint Workspace clients in your management domain. Enabling SharePoint Workspace user accounts involves applying an account configuration code to each SharePoint Workspace client installation. The recommended approach for deploying SharePoint Workspace user account configuration codes is to automate the process and eliminate the need for end-user input, as described in Automate SharePoint Workspace account configuration/restoration. However, this method requires integration with Active Directory. If you do not have access to Active Directory or otherwise need to use a manual account configuration process, use the following procedure.
This procedure requires that Groove Server 2010 Manager is installed as described in Install and configure Groove Server 2010 Manager
To manually deliver SharePoint Workspace account configuration codes
Install SharePoint Workspace on client computers in your management domain, as described in Deploy SharePoint Workspace 2010.
Log on to the Groove Server Manager administrative Web site and then click Members or a group in the navigation pane.
From the Members page, select target recipients for the e-mail.
Select Manage Members in the toolbar, and then click Send Groove Account Configuration Code. The Send Groove Account Configuration Code window appears, with the default e-mail template for account configuration.
Enter your e-mail address in the From field (unless the information is already supplied for a previous saved template), accept the default selections on the e-mail page or customize them, and then click OK when you are finished. You can select the Save this e-mail as a new template option to save a customized template. This sends the e-mail, together with the following items:
Account configuration code - Entering this code into SharePoint Workspace on a client creates a managed identity or converts an existing identity, and downloads domain policies and relay assignments.
Identity name - Specifies the user’s new identity name.
Account Configuration server - Specifies the Manager server name that the SharePoint Workspace client uses to contact the Manager server for updates and reporting.
The final step in the manual account configuration process is conducted by the user who enters the code into SharePoint Workspace upon receipt of your e-mail. An envelope icon in the right-most column of the page indicates defined users who have not yet configured their managed Groove accounts.
The previous procedure lets you deliver instructions and configuration information to users so that they can create a managed SharePoint Workspace identity for your management domain. The status of these users on the Groove Server Manager Members page changes from Pending to Active.
