Tracing Individual Transactions
Applies To: Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server Technical Preview, Windows Vista
When you want to generate log data for a one specific transaction, you can enable this tracing option by right-clicking a transaction that is displayed in DTC Transaction List window in the Component Services administrative tool and selecting Dump to Trace File.
Tracing an individual transaction does not interrupt or affect any background tracing that is enabled. When tracing an individual transaction, the DTC creates a second binary log file specifically for this type of trace data. This log file is located in %systemroot%\system32\msdtc\trace\txtrace.log. The maximum size of this log file is one megabyte. Unlike the log file for background tracing, this file is not circular. Users should try to prevent the log file from reaching its maximum size.
While a DTC tracing session for an individual transaction is in progress, the log file is locked and cannot be deleted. When the tracing session has finished, the log file becomes unlocked and can then be deleted.
