Adding a Component Filter

A component filter contains one or more rules that specify which components to display in the component browser in Windows XP Embedded Target Designer. You can add a component filter to Windows XP Embedded Target Designer at any time.

To add a component filter

  1. In Windows XP Embedded Target Designer, from the Tools menu, choose Filter Manager.

  2. Choose New.

The Filter Editor dialog box appears.

  3. In the Name box, type a unique name for the filter.

    Wildcard characters are not supported.

  4. From the Filter rules list, choose a filter rule and then choose Add Rule.

The rule is added to the Filter description box.

  5. If the new rule displayed in the Filter description box says [Double click here], double-click where indicated to display the appropriate dialog box and add the required information.

For example, if you add the rule Component belongs to the following package: [package], you must select the name of the package from the Filter: Select Package dialog box. Similarly, if you add the rule Component display name contains [substring], you must type the substring in the Filter Rule dialog box.

  6. If you want to use multiple rules in this filter, select AND or OR and then add the new rule.

In the Filter description box, AND and OR are displayed in conjunction with parentheses and indentation, to indicate the logic that will be used by this filter.

  7. When the filter is complete, choose OK.

  8. To immediately apply the filter to the component browser, choose Apply Filter.

    - or -

To close the Filter Manager dialog box without using the filter at this time, choose Close.

Filters can be used at any time, and remain available until they are manually deleted.
