Switching to Expert Mode

**Warning   **Expert mode allows you to modify a configuration in such a way that you can jeopardize the integrity of the configuration.

In Expert mode in Windows XP Embedded Target Designer, you can create and modify your configuration in ways that are not typically supported by the configuration UI. For example, you can remove registry or resource entries from your configuration, and edit extended properties and registry values in component instances.

Note   If you are operating in Basic mode and you attempt to perform a task that requires Expert mode, the Switching to Expert Mode dialog box appears and asks if you want to continue. If you choose Continue, Windows XP Embedded Target Designer will switch to Expert mode for the remainder of the session.

To switch to Expert mode for current and future sessions

  1. In Windows XP Embedded Target Designer, from the Tools menu, choose Options.
  2. On the Mode tab, choose Expert.
  3. Choose OK.
