Automatically Upgrading Components

Windows XP Embedded Target Designer can be set to upgrade the components in a configuration automatically when the configuration is opened. When Windows XP Embedded Target Designer upgrades a component, it replaces it with the newest revision or version of that component that exists in the component database. You can have Windows XP Embedded Target Designer always prompt the user for confirmation before performing the upgrade.

This can apply to components for which new revisions exist in the database, or components for which new versions exist in the database, or both.

Note   After a component in a configuration is upgraded, previous run-time image builds of this configuration may be not repeatable.

To upgrade components automatically after first confirming with the user

  1. From the Tools menu in Windows XP Embedded Target Designer, choose Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, select the Advanced tab.
  3. Select the Ask for confirmation before opening an upgradable configuration check box.
  4. Choose OK.
