Change user permissions for Removable Storage

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To change user permissions for Removable Storage

  1. Open Removable Storage.

  2. In the console tree, right-click the specific item you want to change user permissions for, and then click Properties.

  3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Security tab.

  4. Click the name of the user or group whose permissions you want to change, and then do one of the following:

    • To change specific permissions, select or clear the Allow and Deny check boxes for each of the three levels of permissions: Use, Modify, and Control, as applicable.

    • To deny all permissions, click Remove.

Notes

  • To complete this procedure, you need the appropriate administrative credentials for the affected Removable Storage item. To maintain system security, rather than logging in as an administrator, log in as a user without administrative credentials, and run Removable Storage as an administrator by right-clicking the Computer Management icon, clicking Run As, and choosing an account in the local Administrators group.

  • To open Removable Storage, click Start and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. In the console tree, double-click Storage and then click Removable Storage.

  • You can apply user permissions to libraries, to media pools and their media, or to Removable Storage as a whole.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
