Enable or Disable a Telephony Server

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012

Telephony server is installed by default on computers running Windows Server 2008, but you must enable the service before you can use it.

This procedure affects whether clients can use the telephony devices on the server. Changes take effect the next time the system attempts to start the Telephony service.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To enable or disable a telephony server

  1. Open the Telephony Snap-in.

  2. In the console tree, click the server you want to manage.

  3. On the Action menu, click Properties.

  4. On the Setup tab, do one of the following:

    • To enable the telephony server, select the Enable telephony server check box.

    • To disable the telephony server, clear the Enable telephony server check box.

  5. If you are enabling the telephony server, under Account Information, specify a logon account for the Telephony service. See Change the Telephony Service Logon Account.

Note

If the Enable telephony server check box is unavailable, you need to start the Telephony service first.
