OneNote Class Notebook: Build a community of learning
OneNote is more than just another note taking application for educators because OneNote Class Notebook includes a few extra features specifically for classrooms.
Class Notebooks include premade sections:
- Collaboration Space
- Content Library
- Teacher Only
These sections are permission-based, and the permissions determine how each section is used.
The Collaboration Space is a single location where all members of the Class Notebook have editing privileges, meaning that all members edit, draw, and contribute at will.
Educators can customize permissions to sections inside the Collaboration Space by setting permissions based on the current activity's need.
Give student groups separate permissions in the Collaboration Space
The Collaboration Space is a tremendous place for members to share in learning together and is great for:
- Brainstorming.
- Storing materials all group members need.
- Creating to-do checklists for upcoming projects.
The Content Library is a place for read-only versions of pages of content placed by the educator for learners to access but not edit. Learners read or copy items in the Content Library to their own notebooks, but they can't modify or delete that content.
Educators use the Content Library for:
- Storing premade pages such as handouts or articles.
- Posting important information that doesn't change throughout the year; such as syllabi, permission slips, and classroom rules.
- Storing lecture notes.
The Teacher Only section is exactly what the title implies—a private space for educators. This space allows educators to make OneNote pages full of content on their time schedule and then push out the pages to the Content Library when the time is right to share the pages with learners. Co-teachers or other educators added to the Class Notebook have read/write access to the Teacher Only section, and learners don't see this section at all in their Student Notebooks.
Learners have their own private space, too, called the Student Notebook. Educators can see content inside Student Notebooks, which helps assess learning and even troubleshoot problems.
Class Notebook bridges the gap between educators and learners and provides an excellent way to build a successful learning community.
