Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central provides the following ways to correct an incorrectly posted entry:

  • Cancel fixed asset entries. You can cancel fixed asset entries in the following ways:

    • Run the Cancel FA Entries batch job from the FA Ledger Entries page. This process is typically done when you want to correct a single entry or multiple entries for the same asset.

    • Run the Cancel FA Ledger Entries batch job from the Depreciation Book Card. This process is typically done when you want to cancel several entries for various assets at the same time, such as the depreciation entries from last month for all assets.

  • Reverse entries with the Reverse Transaction function. This function is a general method of correcting all general ledger postings and can be used only with entries that are generated from a general journal line.

The important difference between the two methods is that when you reverse an entry, the program posts an entry with the opposite sign in the same table. When you cancel entries, the program moves the incorrect entries to the FA error ledger.

Therefore, we recommend that you do not use the Reverse Transaction function to correct an incorrect acquisition cost entry because, in this case, the Calculate Depreciation batch job can't calculate the depreciation correctly. We recommend that you use the Cancel FA Entries batch job to correct FA entries.
