Evaluate current employee experiences

Completed

Take a look at the current employee experiences at your organization. Without a deep understanding of your employees' pain points and needs, your plan will miss the mark. Understand how your employees feel about the experiences below.

New employee onboarding

The employee experience begins on day one. Consider the significant milestones of your new hire's story:

  • How are they greeted and introduced?

  • Do they know where to find the answers to their questions?

  • Are their tools personalized and ready to go?

  • What are all the systems in place to make sure this person feels included and cared for?

Assess what's currently happening in your onboarding process and take time to envision an ideal, personalized, and welcoming experience.

Employee tools and technology

After day one, what's the workday like? Are your people set up to perform at their best?

Tools and support are two substantial factors in employee satisfaction. Is the technology intuitive and helpful, buggy, or outdated? Consider the communications devices, software, and hardware. When issues with tools arise, is it easy to get timely support?

Culture and engagement

For employees to feel like what they're doing matters, they need clarity at all levels of the organization, and how they are connected on their strategic priorities across company, team, and individual goals.

Leaders can keep everyone in the loop by sharing updates on organizational goals to all members of their team during key moments in the goal cycle to summarize highlights, learnings, and opportunities for improvement.

To feel like they're seen and valued as human beings, employees also need the freedom to share stories and news, celebrate their wins and experiences, and openly engage with leaders.

Growth and competency

How capable do employees feel regarding their technical abilities and professional skills? If they want to go further, how does management know? Who is currently taking responsibility for employee learning and development at your organization, and do they have the time to check in on each and every employee?

It's critical that employees feel seen, and their progress acknowledged. Is there a personal goal-setting process that management knows about and supports?

Listen and learn from employees

You can find out your employees' perspectives using a variety of tools. Here are a few options available with Microsoft 365.

  • Create org-wide, holistic engagement surveys with Viva Glint or short, lightweight, targeted polls with Viva Pulse.

  • View metrics on how often employees are using various tools and get insights on how you can improve team experience with Microsoft Productivity Score in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

  • Use Viva Insights analytics to highlight your organization’s data regarding the employees’ productivity, engagement within the organization and business resiliency.

Sample survey questions

If you'd like to create a survey, here are some prompts that might help to get you started. Ideally, you'll also elicit what employees found challenging about their onboarding experience. Was there anything they felt could have been better?
