Deployment options

As organizations continue their digital transformations, increasingly more are deploying to the cloud. With Dynamics 365, cloud deployment is an option but not a requirement. Cloud deployments are more secure and often have extra functionality that’s unavailable in on-premises deployments. Maintenance and upgrades are simplified, and in many cases, managed by Microsoft.

Online deployment is when the infrastructure and data are hosted in the cloud. The Microsoft Cloud is a technology platform that’s made up of products and solutions that empower organizations to thrive in a changing world. This platform can include business applications such as Dynamics 365 Finance, Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Business Central, and more. It can also include Office applications that are being hosted, such as Outlook and OneDrive.

An on-premises deployment is when you host the infrastructure and data on your own local server, the traditional server closet. This deployment can also include business applications such as Dynamics 365 Finance, Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Business Central, and more. It can also include Office applications that are being hosted, such as Outlook.

A hybrid deployment is when some of your lines of business applications are online, and some are on-premises. Dynamics 365 integrates with many different systems and can play a part in a hybrid deployment model.
