Promote collaboration, creativity, and cooperation with Minecraft Education's summative assessments

Completed

As noted in the previous unit, summative assessments within the Minecraft Education coding curriculum are performance-based activities completed collaboratively. Learners connect what they've learned throughout the unit to their own world. To complete the performance-based task, the educator hosts a multiplayer game so learners can work together in the same Minecraft world. Learn how to host a multiplayer game.

Working together to complete performance-based tasks is a wonderful way to develop learners’ collaborative and cooperative skills. To develop these skills, educators must create a safe, respectful learning environment where learners are committed to one another’s progress and success. One way to develop a positive culture is by creating class norms. Depending on learners’ age, educators may create class norms in a variety of ways.

  • For the youngest learners, create a list of norms and present them to the class. Discuss the guidelines and why they're important to follow.
  • For learners who have some experience with collaborative work, share a partial list of class norms and ask them to share additional guidelines.
  • For older learners, task them with creating class norms that promote collaboration and cooperation.
