Introduction

Completed

This module examines all the planning aspects that organizations must consider when implementing directory synchronization with Microsoft 365. You examine both the Microsoft Entra ID cloud requirements and the on-premises Active Directory requirements.

Important

Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) is now Microsoft Entra ID. Learn more.

This module also examines the importance of preparing your environment for synchronization. It does so by analyzing the following features:

  • On-premises Active Directory preparation
  • UPN suffixes
  • Microsoft 365 IdFix tool

With both your on-premises and cloud environments ready for synchronization, you can then choose which directory synchronization tool best fits your organization's requirements. This module explores the features of each synchronization tool - Microsoft Entra Connect Sync and Microsoft Entra Cloud Sync.

You learn that it's easy to implement Microsoft Entra Connect. However, organizations that have a complex on-premises Active Directory implementation or special requirements must thoroughly plan the Microsoft Entra Connect Sync tool implementation. It has a larger footprint than Microsoft Entra Cloud Sync.

You then examine Microsoft's latest directory synchronization tool, Microsoft Entra Cloud Sync. This tool uses lightweight agents to run the synchronization process. As such, it has a smaller footprint than Microsoft Entra Connect Sync
