You can find typical cost-related information for items on the item card. When an item is selected on a purchase order line, Business Central automatically retrieves the Last Direct Cost that is stored on the item card and copies it to the purchase order line.

However, if a vendor offers an item at a different price that is based on other criteria such as the order date or a minimum order quantity, the one-cost-per-item-card model can't accommodate these extra requirements.

Purchase prices enable pricing functionality that goes beyond the standard item card.
