Exercise - Combine assets

This exercise uses the CRONUS sample company from the US version of Business Central. You might need to adjust the steps if you use the sample company from your country or region.

Scenario

Because a laptop and monitor are always used together, your accountant prefers to only have one fixed asset card for both assets. As a result, the accountant asks you to create a new fixed asset with the following information:

  • Description: Microsoft Surface configuration 

  • Responsible employee: John Roberts

  • Depreciation method: Straight-line 

  • Depreciation starting date: May 1, 2020 

  • No. of depreciation years: 4 

  • Vendor: Fabrikam Inc. 

  • Maintenance vendor: Fabrikam Inc. 

Your task will be to combine both assets into this new fixed asset.

Tasks

  • Create the new fixed asset for the Microsoft Surface configuration.

  • Combine the assets for the laptop and the monitor into the new fixed asset.

  • Post the FA G/L journal.

Steps

  1. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter fixed assets, and then select the related link.

  2. Select New.

  3. In the Description field, enter Microsoft Surface configuration.

  4. In the FA Class Code field, enter TANGIBLE.

  5. In the FA Subclass Code field, enter IT-EQUIP.

  6. In the Responsible Employee field, enter JR.

  7. Expand the Depreciation Book FastTab.

  8. In the Depreciation Method field, select the field and then select Straight-line.

  9. In the Depreciation Starting Date field, enter May 1, 2020.

  10. In the No. of Depreciation Years field, enter 4.

  11. Expand the Maintenance FastTab.

  12. In the Vendor No. field, enter 10000.

  13. In the Maintenance Vendor No. field, enter 10000.

  14. Return to your role center page.

  15. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter fixed asset reclassification journals, and then select the related link.

  16. In the FA Posting Date field, enter May 1, 2020.

  17. In the FA No. field, enter the fixed asset for the Microsoft Surface Book 2.

  18. In the New FA No. field, select the fixed asset for the Microsoft Surface configuration.

  19. In the Reclassify Acq. Cost % field, enter 100.

  20. Select the Reclassify Acquisition Cost field.

  21. Select the Reclassify Depreciation field.

  22. Select the Insert Bal. Account field.

  23. Go to the second line.

  24. In the FA Posting Date field, enter May 1, 2020.

  25. In the FA No. field, enter the fixed asset for the Monitor ProArt PA32-K.

  26. In the New FA No. field, select the fixed asset for the Microsoft Surface configuration.

  27. In the Reclassify Acq. Cost % field, enter 100.

  28. Select the Reclassify Acquisition Cost field.

  29. Select the Reclassify Depreciation field.

  30. Select the Insert Bal. Account field.

  31. Select Reclassify.

  32. Select Yes.

  33. Return to your role center page.

  34. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter fixed asset G/L journals, and then select the related link.

  35. Select Process > Post.

  36. Select Yes.
