Leadership development

Completed

Creating leaders among your team is a valuable approach to distributive leadership. A leader will often create an instructional leadership team, which gives every team a voice in the decision-making process in a school or system. Creating a leadership team means developing a group who represents their colleagues in planning and decision-making for the good of the whole school community. Team members should have a strong grasp of curriculum, instruction, and leadership to support the process of school improvement. Members represent grade levels, departments, support staff, and more. Membership would be determined based on the design of the school community (elementary, secondary). Members should be innovative and data driven while focusing on continuous school improvement.

It's important for school or system leaders to mobilize the leadership you have in your staff. By doing so, you empower your staff with a voice in the planning process and build capacity for leadership in your system. Creating a leadership team is one to support this effort. A leadership team that includes all parties involved in strategic planning and reviewing student data supports the school or system's growth and progress toward goals.
