Troubleshoot Active Directory Domain Services replication

Advanced

Windows Server

Diagnose replication failures by interpreting partner status, testing dependencies, correcting a demonstrated cause, and verifying convergence without risking directory consistency.

Learning objectives

In this module, you'll:

  • Analyze Repadmin, DCDiag, Windows PowerShell, and event-log evidence to scope a replication failure.
  • Distinguish actionable failures from expected latency, transient topology states, informational statuses, and secondary errors.
  • Isolate failures involving name resolution, network connectivity, authentication, topology, or domain controller health.
  • Select a targeted correction or recognize a data-consistency condition that requires escalation.
  • Verify replication convergence and the original business symptom.

Prerequisites

  • Experience administering Active Directory Domain Services domains, forests, domain controllers, sites, subnets, and Domain Name System infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Event Viewer, Command Prompt, Windows PowerShell, Kerberos authentication, and Group Policy.
  • Working knowledge of privileged administration, change control, and backup and recovery principles.
