Exercise - Run a resource schedule

The Production manager, just bought a new assembly robot and wants to increase flexibility in the company's production. In the past, when designing the production process (route) for a product, the Production manager had to specify where each operation was to be performed.

Instead, they want to defer the allocation of where and by whom an operation is performed until the production is scheduled. Also, the Production manager wants to use excess capacity in other workshops to eliminate bottlenecks in heavily loaded workshops.

To create capabilities and resources, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Organization administration > Resources > Resource capabilities.
  2. Select New.
  3. Enter 20 in the Capability field and Assembly in the Description field.
  4. Select New.
  5. Enter 30 in the Capability field and Packing in the Description field.
  6. Expand the Resources FastTab.
  7. Select Add.
  8. Select 1222, Speaker packing worker 1 in the Resource field.
  9. Accept the default Expiration date of Never.
  10. Accept the default Level of 0.00.
  11. Enter 1 in the Priority field.
  12. Close the Resource capabilities page.
  13. Open Organization administration > Resources > Resources.
  14. Select New.
  15. Enter 000727 in the Resource field.
  16. Enter Assembly robot in the Description field.
  17. Accept the default of Machine in the Type field.
  18. Open the Capabilities FastTab.
  19. Select Add.
  20. Select 20 in the Capability field.
  21. Accept the default Expiration date of Never.
  22. Accept the default Level of 0.00.
  23. Enter 1 in the Priority field.
  24. Expand the Resource groups FastTab.
  25. Select View > All from the Action Pane strip.
  26. Select Add.
  27. Enter 1210 in the Resource group field, enter the next working day in the Effective field, and then accept the default Expiration date of Never.
  28. Accept the default Input warehouse.
  29. Accept the default Input location.
  30. Expand the Calendar tab and then select Add.
  31. Select 24Hours in the Calendar field.
  32. Close the Resources page.

To identify resources that are applicable for the operation, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Production control > All routes.
  2. Select Route > Maintain > Route details.
  3. Verify that route 000002: STANDARD SPEAKER - D0003 is selected.
  4. Verify that operation 10 is selected in the grid of the Route page.
  5. Select Applicable Resources. Notice that all the resources from the 1210 resource group are listed.
  6. Select Scroll one day forward by selecting the Next day button or select the date picker field.
  7. Select OK.
  8. Close the Applicable resources page.

To add requirements for a capability to an operation, follow these steps:

  1. Select Route > Maintain > Route details.
  2. On the Route page, select route 000002 and then select operation 10 in the grid.
  3. Select the Resource requirements tab.
  4. In the Resource requirements grid, select the line where Requirement type is Capability and Requirement is Assembly.
  5. Select Delete and then select Yes to delete the record.
  6. Select New.
  7. Select Capability in the Requirement type field.
  8. Enter 20 in the Requirement field.
  9. Leave the Operation scheduling and Job scheduling check boxes selected.
  10. Close all pages.

To create and confirm a sales order, follow these steps:

  1. Open Sales and marketing > Sales orders > All Sales orders.
  2. Select New.
  3. Enter US-013 for customer Pelican Wholesales in the Customer account field.
  4. Accept the default settings in all other fields. Select OK.
  5. On the Sales order page, open the Sales order Lines FastTab.
  6. Enter D0003 in the Item number field.
  7. Enter 12 in the Quantity field.
  8. Accept the default values for the remaining fields.
  9. Select Save.
  10. Select Confirm sales order on the Sell tab on the Action Pane.
  11. Accept all default settings on the Confirm sales order page.
  12. Select OK.
  13. Select OK.
  14. Close all pages.

To run master scheduling, follow these steps:

  1. Open Master Planning > Master Planning > Run > Master Planning.
  2. Select StaticPlan in the Master plan field.
  3. Select OK.
